Domane AL 5 Gen 3 Road Bike - Grey / Red Fade
Trek's Domane AL road bikes are excellent for anyone who is just getting into road biking or on a budget. The Alpha Aluminium frame is constructed using clever techniques that leave the weld almost invisible for carbon bike looks at an alloy bike price. One of the things that makes the Domane such a good beginner's bike is its endurance geometry. The tall headtube and short reach put the rider in an upright position with less stress on their arms and neck. This isn't quite as aerodynamic as more race-oriented bikes but it is more comfortable for longer rides. This is great for getting used to riding in the drops and developing bike handling skills on a nice stable platform.
Voluminous 32mm tyres smooth out rough roads and provide plenty of grip in the corners. You can even fit 35mm tyres if you fancy taking the Domane on the road less travelled for some gravel fun. Mechanical disc brakes work reliably in all conditions, ensuring you'll never be left wanting more stopping power. There are mounts for just about anything you might want. Fit a set of mudguards to keep the road spray off through the winter or a rear pannier rack for the commute or carrying groceries. There is plenty of space for bottle cages too and the Blendr stem can be used to cleanly integrate lights and/or a cycle computer.
The Domane AL 5 comes equipped with some serious kit. 11-speed Shimano 105 benefits from trickledown from the top-tier groupsets and it shows in the quality of the shifting. Smaller gear jumps make it easier to find a comfortable cadence and shifting between the gears is lovely and crisp. This is especially true of the linkage-style front derailleur which requires less force to shift.
Whether you're looking to treat yourself to your first road bike or you need a speedy commuting companion, the Domane AL 5 could be the bike for you.
Features:
- Lightweight aluminium frame with internal cable routing, flat mount disc brakes and large tyre clearance.
- Carbon fork with IsoSpeed vibration damping for a comfortable ride.
- Shimano 105 2x11 speed groupset is reliable and easy to operate.
- Hydraulic disc brakes provide powerful braking even in adverse weather.
- Bontrager finishing kit is well made, looks good, and is sized to suit each frame size.
- A perfect introduction to road cycling.
